Tangshan Sanyou to Construct Wastes Treatment Project     

Tangshan Sanyou Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. (Tangshan Sanyou, SH: 600409) announced on July 10th that it intends to invest RMB199.8825 million in constructing a slag and salt slurry filter pressing and comprehensive treatment project. The project was already approved by Hebei provincial government in March 2008 and is planed for completion in two years.
   The company is a domestic leading soda ash producer using the ammonia-soda process. It has a soda ash capacity of 2.0 million t/a, which can annually bring about around 3.62 million cubic meters of soda slag containing 75% of water. The company presently treats with the slag through simple stacking. If the soda slag can be treated through filter pressing into backfill earth, which will become the most economical and feasible method for soda ash enterprises using the ammonia-soda process to thoroughly solve the problem of soda slag occupying land and affecting environment.
   The company has also announced that due to the sustained price rise of power and coal the cost of power and steam in controlling shareholder Tangshan Sanyou Soda (Group) Co., Ltd. has increased drastically in 2008. Through consultation, starting from May 1st, 2008 the prices of power and steam supplied by the controlling shareholder to Tangshan Sanyou was increased. The cost of the company in 2008 will therefore increase by around RMB120 million.
