Scheme for Large-Scale Oil/Gas Field and Coalbed Methane Development Approved    

The Standing Conference of the State Council sponsored by Premier Wen Jiabao on June 11th examined and passed in principle the State Science and Technology Major Specific Project Scheme for Large-scale Oil/Gas Field and Coalbed Methane Development. It is requested by the conference that an overall upgrading of the independent innovation and development ability in oil/gas and coalbed methane sectors should be achieved through the execution of the scheme so as to provide a reliable guarantee to the oil/gas demand in China.
   In light of the strategic need and the development trend, China will make dynamic readjustments to major specific projects for a step-wise execution. During the Eleventh Five-year Program period (2006-2010) major contents and targets for the large-scale oil/gas field and coalbed methane development are as follows: conduct research on technologies for the high-precision seismic prospecting and recovery of oil/gas and coalbed methane resources in complicated geological conditions in the western region and deep-sea oil/gas resources, upgrade the ability for the independent design and manufacturing of complete technologies and equipment, increase the oil/gas resource proving rate by ranging 10% - 20% and increase the oil recovery rate ranging 40% - 50%.
   The six major technology series, 20 major technologies, 10 major kinds of equipment with intellectual property right and 22 demonstrative projects proposed in the scheme will provide a powerful support to the attainment of these targets.
