Shanxi Shut down Outdated Calcium Carbide Factories    

On May 21st Shanxi Provincial Economic Commission published the list of enterprises in calcium carbide and ferrous alloy sectors of Shanxi province that operate an outdated production process and shall be shut down this year. A compensation of more than RMB30 million will be offered to 15 enterprises to be shut down.
   Before the end of 2008 ferrous alloy mineral furnaces of 5000-6300 kVA and Si-Ca alloy furnaces and Si-Ca-Ba-Al alloy furnaces below 1500 kVA should be eliminated. Before the end of 2010 calcium carbide furnaces of 5000-12500 kVA and open calcium carbide furnaces, ferrous alloy mineral furnaces of 6300 kVA and Si-Ca alloy furnaces and Si-Ca-Ba-Al alloy furnaces below 5000 kVA should be eliminated.
   It is requested that compulsory measures such as stopping water, power, gas, transportation, loan and certificate issuance will be taken to shut down outdated production equipment, processes and enterprises not in conformity with industrial policies of the state. The disposal and whereabouts of major equipment and facilities eliminated should be closely followed to ensure their dismantling and destroy and avoid their revival.
