RCL to Construct Calcined Petroleum Coke Project in NCIP

On June 5th Rain Calcining Limited (RCL) of India and Nanjing Chemical Industry Park Management Committee jointly held a ceremony for launching a 400 000 t/a calcined petroleum coke project in the park. At the contract-signing ceremony RCL President Gerard Sweeney donated US$10 000 to the quake-hit areas in Sichuan province.
RCL is a world's leading calcined petroleum coke producer, produces 2.49 million tons of calcined petroleum coke a year worldwide, accounting for 14% of the world total.
Calcined petroleum coke is an important raw material for the production of electrolytic aluminum and iron/steel. Electrolytic aluminum and iron/steel sectors in China are growing at over 15%/y in recent years.
Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP) has petroleum coke resources and is close to solid bulk terminals and railways. Theses conditions are required by the plant. Byproduct steam generated in the calcined petroleum coke production can also be supplied to other companies located in the park for reuse.
The facility will use the world's leading technology and has large production scale and high product quality. Advanced desulfurization process will be used in flue gas purification, fully conforming to the requirements of clean production and environmental protection. The project is expected to spend US$59.9 million. Construction will be started in May 2009. It is scheduled to come on stream in May 2010.
NCIP has promised to provide quick and efficient services and support the project.
