Program for Water Pollution Control in Major River Reaches Formulated     

With the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Water Conservancy and the Ministry of Real Estate and Municipal Construction have recently formulated the "Program for the Water Pollution Control in Major River Reaches such as the Huai River, the Hai River, the Cao Lake, the Dian Lake and the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yellow River (2006-2010)".
   It is defined in the "Program" that by 2010 centralized drinking water sources in six major river reaches will have treatment and protection, the environment quality of trans-provincial cross-section water will have remarkable improvement, major industrial enterprises will achieve pollutant emission up to standard, the level of urban sewage treatment will have evident upgrading, the total emission amount of water pollutants will have effective control and the ability of environmental supervision and water pollution pre-warning and emergency treatment will be greatly enhanced.
