China Adds Tariff on Exports of Phosphorus Products

China levies a 100% special tariff on exports of all phosphorus products on the current export tariff range from 10% to 20%, effective from May 20th to December 31st, 2008. Phosphate rock, phosphorus yellow and phosphate salts are involved in the list.
"The measure is required by heavy damages of phosphorus mills in the quake-hit areas, Sichuan province," chemical insiders said, "China may limit strictly exports of phosphorus products and phosphate fertilizers, to meet the domestic demand for these products."
To ensure domestic supply and curb rising inflation, the government has increased export tariffs on fertilizer products and related raw materials to 135%, effective from April 20th to September 30th, 2008. (CCR2008 No. 13)
In addition, China exempts value-added tax on the players engaged in the production, sales (whole sales and retail sales) of organic fertilizers, organic-inorganic mix fertilizers and bio-fertilizers, effective June 1st, 2008, to boost biological environment.
