China to Implement National Standards for Energy Consumption

According to the information released by the Standardization Administration of China, nine compulsory national standards for energy consumption per unit products will be implemented from June 1st, 2008.
These 9 compulsory national standards for energy consumption per unit products are the first lot of the 22 standards in industrial sectors with high energy consumption defined in the Law of the People's Republic of China on Conserving Energy. It covers 9 major sectors including crude steel, caustic soda, coal-fired power generation, copper smelting, zinc smelting, lead smelting, nickel smelting, cement and construction and sanitary ceramics. Except for the standard in the cement sector that is revised on the original version, the other 8 national standards are formulated for the first time.
The formulation of these national standards can help meet the requirements on energy saving and pollutant reducing, raise the energy utilization level in industrial sectors with high energy consumption and improve standard systems for controlling energy consumption in these sectors.
