UOP Completes Molecular Sieve Plant Expansion in Shanghai

On November 12th, 2007 UOP LLC, a Honeywell (NYSE: HON) company, announced that Shanghai UOP Ltd. (SUOP), the largest molecular sieve adsorbents manufacturing plant in Asia, has completed an expansion to boost capacity and expand its offering to meet growing demand in China and the rest of Asia.
Equipment upgrades and improvements to manufacturing productivity at the facility have increased capacity by more than 30%, exceeding the original expansion target of 20%. The expansion will also allow for manufacturing of additional products to support regional demand.
"This expansion will allow us to keep pace with the growing demand for adsorbents for the production of industrial gases, petrochemicals, and fuels throughout Asia, especially China," said Carol Bibb, senior vice president for UOP's Catalyst, Adsorbents and Specialties business. "UOP continues to be a pioneer in the adsorbents business by developing cutting edge products and processes, and we will continue to invest to meet the expanding needs of our customers."
UOP's molecular sieve adsorbents are used to separate molecules by size in petrochemical production, oil refining, processing of natural gas, ethanol drying, industrial gas and air separation, refrigerant drying and many other applications. In addition to the SUOP facility, UOP supports global demand for molecular sieves with manufacturing facilities in Mobile, Ala., and Reggio Calabria, Italy.
SUOP was founded in 1988 with joint venture partner Shanghai Huayi Group. UOP holds a 70% ownership interest in the company.
