MTP Pilot Project Kicks off    

On October 18th, 2007 the fluid MTP (methanol-to-propylene) commercialization pilot project of Anhui Huainan Chemical Group Co., Ltd. was launched in Huainan city, Anhui province.
    The project, jointly developed by China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation, Tsinghua University and Anhui Huainan Chemical Group Co., Ltd., has a methanol processing capacity of 30 000 t/a and produces nearly 10 000 tons of propylene and 800 tons of byproduct LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) a year. The total investment of the project is around RMB160 million and wet commissioning is planned to be conducted in March 2009.
   The MTP technology is a core technology in the development of the new coal chemical industry and also a development orientation of the coal chemical sector in future. China has developed the MTO (methanol-to-olefin) and MTP (methanol-to-propylene) technology, but commercialization has not yet been achieved.
