Salt Lake Potash Intends to Recover Scrap Salt

Qinghai Salt Lake Potash Co., Ltd. (Salt Lake Potash, SZ: 000792) has announced that the Board of Directors of the company has approved its subsidiary Qinghai Salt Lake Sanyuan Co., Ltd. to invest in the construction of a 100 000 t/a hot-melt refined potassium chloride project. The total investment of the project is around RMB260 million (being raised by the company itself and loaned from banks) and the construction period is around 1.5 years.
The raw material used in the project is potash-containing scrap salt from tail salt ponds of Salt Lake Potash and Qinghai Salt Lake Development Co., Ltd. Sampling tests on tail salt from tail salt ponds show that the average content of potassium chloride is around 8%. The two companies discharge 1.6 million tons of tail salt a year. Through many years around 18.0 million tons of 5%-10% high-sodium and low-potash ores have been deposited in salt ponds. Companies that discharge potash-containing scrap salt have no production units to make processing and recovery. As a result potash-containing scrap salt has never used so far.
