1 000 Chemical Enterprises Shut down      
--Chemical enterprises in Jiangsu getting into dilemma

According to the information from the Economic and Trade Commission and environmental protection departments in Jiangsu province, 1 000 chemical enterprises in the Taihu Lake region including Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou have already been shut down. It is planned that another 1 600 chemical enterprises in the three cities will be shut down in the next one or two years.
   Statistics from economic and trade departments in Suzhou show that 300 chemical enterprises in the city have already been shut down and another 300 chemical enterprises will be shut down by the end of 2007.
   200 chemical enterprises in Changzhou have already been shut down and another 500 chemical enterprises will be shut down by the end of next year.
   500 small chemical enterprises in Wuxi have already been shut down and it is planned to shut down another 772 small chemical enterprises in the next one or two years.
   Xinghua City will take the scrap rubber processing sector as the target for major rectification to remove the polluting source of scrap rubber processing. 420 scrap rubber and plastic processing enterprises were banned by the end of August.
