According to tire experts from the Technical and Economic Committee of China Rubber Industry Association, tires will develop towards greater safety, more energy conservation and more environmental protection in the 21st century. Sedan tires used in China are already radial and tubeless varieties. They are developing towards low-profile varieties and lowest-profile varieties already produced have 25 series.
   Tires are developing towards functional varieties. The research and development of smart tires is one of the new development orientations in automobile technologies. The installation of computer chips in tires can increase the safety of vehicles and reduce the consumption of fuels.
   Besides, tires are also developing towards automatic production. Various large tire companies in the world are intent on the research and development of brand-new production technologies and many of them have already achieved commercialization.
