BZAEETC Launches Methanol and DME Project   

On August 31st, 2007 Beijing Zhongchun Alcohol & Ether Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (BZAEETC) started construction on the 1 million t/a methanol and 500 000 t/a DME (dimethyl ether) project in Yongxing county, Chenzhou, Hunan province. BZAEETC and some other companies jointly invest RMB3.85 billion to construct this project into 3 phases, with a construction period of around 5 years.
   The whole project covers an area of around 267 hectares and makes use of coal as the raw material. With an investment of RMB520 million, the first-phase project will construct a 200 000 t/a methanol and 100 000 t/a DME production line. The first-phase project is expected to start production at the end of 2008 and after its completion the annual output of RMB700 million will be realized for the project.
    Both methanol and DME being universally considered as clean fuel, the 1 million t/a methanol and 500 000 t/a DME project is listed as one of the TOP10 Alternative Energy Project of China. The project will fully adopt the abundant and suitable coal reserves in Yongxing county to gradually change the situation that most domestic manufacturers use food as the raw material to produce alcohols and ethers.
