Dow Polyglycols Launch New Type MPEG for China Market

On August 31st, 2007, Dow Polyglycols Business, a Value Center in Specialty Chemicals Business Unit of The Dow Chemical Company and its consolidated affiliates (Dow) announced that the co-research with Nanjing Institute of Chemical and Building (NICB), China Nanjing University of Technology comes to a new type of MPEG using in production of polycarboxylic plasticizer which is complied in line with relevant China national industry standard.
Polycarboxylic plasticizer (also called superplasticizer) is an admixture that allows water reduction or flowability without substantially slowing set time or increasing air entrainment. The new type of MPEG, which can react with acids such as acrylic, maleic acid and methyl acrylic acid, etc to make macro monomer, can be further polymerized with other monomers to form polycarboxylic plasticizer.
"The polycarboxylic plasticizer can give better spreading of the cement, thus the cement mixture needs less water and results in a stronger concrete," said senior engineer of NICB.
