Wuxi to Close 772 Small Chemical Companies

It is released by a relevant department of Wuxi, Jiangsu province,
in order to alleviate pollution toward Taihu Lake, 772 small
chemical companies will be shut down in the next 2 years to
guarantee the safety of drinking water in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.
According to an official of the Wuxi Municipal Government, 503
small chemical companies will be shut down in 2007, and 269 in
2008. One hundred and sixty ones have been closed this year.
    Nowadays, around 20 000 small chemical companies in the
Taihu Lake area are major pollution source for Taihu Lake.
