DIBK Unit Starts Production in Jilin

The first 700 t/a diisobutyl ketone (DIBK) unit in China was
recently completed and put on stream in the Fine Chemical Co.,
Ltd. of CNPC Jilin Chemical. The unit has an investment of
RMB27.8 million. One hundred tons of qualified products have
already been produced and put into the domestic market. The
product quality can reach the level of similar products imported
from abroad and basically meet the requirements of domestic
users.
   The DIBK production technology is developed by CNPC Jilin
Chemical itself with intellectual property right. The product
is an excellent solvent mainly used as solvent for
nitrocellulose paints, vinyl resin coatings and other synthetic
resin dyes, solvent for food processing and intermediate for
some medicines and insecticides.
   With the rapid development of construction and automobile
sectors in China, the demand of high-grade coatings is making
an increase in recent years and the consumption of DIBK is
greatly promoted. According to projection made by experts, the
average annual growth of the DIBK demand will be around 15% in
the next 3 to 5 years and the demand is expected to reach 4 000
tons in 2010.
