SNCIG Kicks off Coal-based Activated Carbon Project in Ningxia

On June 16th, 2007 Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group (SNCIG)
started construction on the 50 000 t/a coal-based activated
carbon project in Shizuishan, Ningxia. It is the first phase of
the company's 250 000 t/a coal-based activated carbon
project-with a total investment of RMB1.5 billion- is expected
to be completed in 2 or 3 years. The 50 000 t/a coal-based
activated carbon first-phase project has an investment of RMB376
million.
    It is released that the project will help to realize the
recycle utilization of the resources. The project makes use of
the Taixi coal in Ningxia as the raw material. Once the 250 000
t/a coal-based activated carbon project completes, over one
hundred kinds of activated carbon products will be manufactured
then.
    In addition, the methanol plant of SNCIG conducted wet
commissioning in Shizuishan, Ningxia on June 11th, 2007.
According to a person in charge of the plant, the coal chemical
project has spent RMB1.4 billion and will reach a capacity for
250 000 t/a fine methanol, among which 50% products can meet
AA-degree standard of the United States. The related 210 000 t/a
DME project is expected to be completed in August 2007.
