Bayer Introduces New Innovations

By Rowena Wang
The Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants Business Unit of Bayer
MaterialScience AG has recently extended its range of
solvent-free products with the addition of two Bayhydrol (r )
polyurethane dispersions specially developed for the coating of
plastics. The new additions are Bayhydrol (r ) XP 2606 and the
more flexible variant Bayhydrol (r ) XP 2648. These two products
can be used to formulate flexible coatings having a good property
level when used as a filler, basecoat or topcoat. Both products
can dry very rapidly.
Bayhydrol (r ) XP 2606 exhibits good cold flex resistance and
is particularly well suited for the coating of PVC substrates.
Bayhydrol (r ) XP 2648 is even more flexible and offers good
adhesion to other difficult substrates such as polyamide.
Because of their unlimited intermiscibility, the two
products can be freely blended. Both products can also be blended
with polyacrylates.
In addition, Bayer MaterialScience AG recently also
introduced a low-emission, high-performance alternative:
one-component PU coatings formulated with Desmodur (r ) E XP 2605.
As with NC coatings, the user does not have to worry about pot
life when working with moisture-curing, one-component PU
coatings formulated with Desmodur (r ) E XP 2605. Drying takes
no more than half an hour. The new coatings based on Desmodur
(r ) E XP 2605 are far superior to nitrocellulose systems, in
particular with respect to resistance to scratching and solvents.
They offer excellent adhesion to wood and - if formulated
accordingly - impart high gloss.
