Akzo Nobel Launches Fuel Saving Marine Coatings

After the introduction of biocide-free silicone elastomer foul
release coatings Intersleek(R) 700, Akzo Nobel newly developed
Intersleek(R) 900, a new, unique patented fluoropolymer foul
release coatings to further reduce the fuel consumption and
emissions. Fluoropolymer chemistry represents the very advances
in foul release technology, significantly improving upon the
performance of environment benefit and fuel saving. Similarly,
biocides are not used to control foul, thus do no damages to the
sea animals.
These two products not only have good performance in fuel
savings by improving fuel efficiency but also help reduce the
fuel emissions, therefore they are new generations of real
economic and environmental friendly products. Intersleek( r)
700 is the first available biocide free foul release coatings,
tailored for the deep sea scheduled ships above 15 knots with
more than 65% activity. Intersleek(R) 700's silicone based
technology works on a foul release basis by providing a very
smooth, slippery, low friction surface onto which fouling
organisms have difficulty attaching. The recently launched
Intersleek( r) 900 which uses fluoropolymer technology can be
used for all the vessels above 10 knots.
