Coke and Methanol Project of Hebei Kingboard Starts Production

The first-phase 1.0 million t/a coke and 100 000 t/a methanol
project constructed by Kingboard (Hebei) Coking Co., Ltd. and
Kingboard (Hebei) Chemical Co., Ltd. started production in
Xingtai of Hebei province on March 18th, 2007.
   Xingtai is an important coal production base in Hebei
province. Kingboard (Hebei) Coking Co., Ltd. and Kingboard
(Hebei) Chemical Co., Ltd. are 2 subsidiaries wholly owned by
Hong Kong Kingboard Chemical Group. Preparations for the
establishment of the two companies were started in July 2003.
The project has a total investment of more than RMB900 million
and covers an area of around 41 hectares. The design capacity
includes 1.0 million t/a stamped coke, 36 000 t/a tar and 12 000
t/a crude benzene. Kingboard (Hebei) Chemical Co., Ltd. is
mainly engaged in the methanol production with coking byproduct
coke oven gas as raw material.
    Construction on the second phase with a total investment of
around RMB1.0 billion was started simultaneously to the south
of the first phase. The second phase has a capacity of 1.0 million
t/a coke, 100 000 t/a methanol and 50 000 t/a hydrogenation
benzene. Production is expected to start in April 2008. The third
phase that is a 1.8 million t/a methanol unit has been prepared.
Kingboard Chemical Group is determined to create the world's
biggest coal chemical production base in northern China.
