Shida Chemical Completes Propylene Unit

On February 6th, 2007 Nanchong Shida Chemical Co., Ltd. (Shida
Chemical) completed a propylene production unit with a
processing capacity of 70 000 t/a and put it into trial
production in Nanchong, Sichuan province. Qualified propylene
products separated from LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) have been
manufactured in the company today. This unit is the first
propylene production unit in southwestern China.
   This propylene production unit is included in the first phase
of the LPG deep processing project of Shida Chemical. The LPG
deep processing project with a total investment of over RMB80
million made by Shida Chemical was launched on September 3rd,
2005. (CCR2005, No. 27) The project is executed into two phases
and makes use of cracking LPG from Nanchong Refining & Chemical
Complex as the raw material. The first phase of the project also
includes a 30 000 t/a PP (polypropylene) production unit and some
other related facilities. The second phase will build a 45 000
t/a PP unit and a 15 000 t/a MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) unit
and their construction will be started in 2007.
   According to a person in charge of Shida Chemical, the
propylene unit will be formally started production within the
next few days and 20 000 - 30 000 tons of propylene will be
produced in 2007.
