SSEC Acquires 120 000 T/A BPA Contract

During November 6th to 10th, 2006 a meeting was held for formally
launching a 120 000 t/a bisphenol A (BPA) project of Shanghai
Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals Co., Ltd. in Sinopec Shanghai
Engineering Company Ltd. (SSEC) located in Shanghai. The
project's construction period is fixed at 20 months. On July 28th,
2006 a ground breaking ceremony of the project was held in
Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. (CCR2006, No.23) On October
26th, 2006 Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals Co., Ltd. signed
an Onshore EP contract for the 120 000 t/a BPA project with SSEC.
   BPA is an important raw material for the production of epoxy
resin and polycarbonate. China has long been short of BPA,
depended on imported goods. With more and more domestic
manufacturers pursuing to construct epoxy resin and
polycarbonate units, the demand for BPA will therefore increase.
