PX and PTA Projects Kick off in Xiamen

On November 17th, 2006 construction was simultaneously started
on an 800 000 t/a PX (para-xylene) project and a 1.5 million t/a
PTA (purified terephthalic acid) project in Haicang South
Industry Zone, Fujian province of southern China. Covering an
area of 114.74 hectares and 14.8 hectares, the two projects won
the approval of the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC)
respectively in July and October 2006. (CCR2006, No.23)
   The 800 000 t/a PX project of Dragon Aromatics (Xiamen)
Company Ltd. will spend RMB1.08 billion, among which 5% - 7.5%
investment will be used in environmental protection according
to the general manager of the company. After completion, the
company is expected to reach an annual sales of over RMB40
billion. The PX project includes a PX plant area, a
thermoelectric base and matched docks by adopting the world
advanced process.
   The 1.5 million t/a PTA project of Xiamen Xianglu
Petrochemical Company Ltd. has a total investment of RMB4
billion. It is the second-phase PTA project of the company and
is scheduled to start up at the end of 2008. With a total
investment of over RMB5 billion, the first-phase 900 000 t/a PTA
unit put on stream in October 2002, which expanded to a 1.5
million t/a PTA unit after several renovations, ranking the
largest single-line capacity in the world today.
