Ion-Membrane Caustic Soda Renovation Project Puts on Stream

The 50 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda renovation project
started production in Chlor-Alkali Company of Taiyuan Chemical
Industry Co., Ltd. (TCIC) in Taiyuan of Shanxi province on
December 8th, 2006.
TCIC introduced ion-membrane technology from Japan and
constructed a 20 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda unit in 1994.
On this basis ion membrane is imported from DuPont of the United
States, new electrolytic cells are added and advanced
technologies are used to complete the renovation of 5 sections
including brine, brine refining, electrolysis,
chlorine/hydrogen treatment and evaporation. The capacity of
ion-membrane caustic soda reaches 50 000 t/a.
TCIC also uses new technologies to conduct renovation to the
existing diaphragm caustic soda facility. The capacity of
diaphragm caustic soda has therefore reached 90 000 t/a and the
need of chlorine in the PVC production is satisfied.
