Liaoyang Petrochemical Develops New PETG

The new type of polyethylene terephthlate glycolised (PETG)
developed by the research institute of the CNPC Liaoyang
Petrochemical Company recently passed the approval of CNPC
(China National Petroleum Corporation). PETG is a new kind of
PET, with characteristics of excellent transparency, strong
tenacity and environmental friendliness. It can be used to
manufacture transparent plastic plates, sheets and bottles. By
means of its good treatable properties, it can be substituted
for polyvinyl chloride, and approach polycarbonates.
   CNPC started this research item in 2004. The research team
completed laboratory tests and a pilot, and initiated commercial
production in the 20 000 t/a PTA semi-consecutive polymerization
unit of Liaoyang Petrochemical Company, with the products
readily accepted by consumers. A national patent has been
applied for.
