BASF: Chemical Leakage in England

BASF plc, Seal Sands recently confirmed that an employee is being
treated at a local hospital following the incident on the nylon
intermediates plant at the site, which happened on January 4th,
2007. Fourteen other people were also taken to hospitals as a
precaution immediately following the incident, which involved
a release of hexamethlyenediamine.
BASF has launched an investigation into the incident and is
supporting the investigations being carried out by the Health
and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency. For the time
being, the affected section of the nylon intermediates plant
will remain shut down as part of the investigation. BASF would
like to stress that there was no risk to people off site at any
stage during the incident.
