Magnesium Hydroxide Flame-Retarding Agent Technology

Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, CAS, has used a new conversion
catalyst and conventional magnesium hydroxide as raw material
to produce hexagonal magnesium hydroxide flame-retarding agent
with complete crystal form through hydrothermal modification.
Due to its large particle size and wide distribution,
industrial-grade magnesium hydroxide can not fully meet the
requirements of users. Researchers in the institute have
modified process conditions for the synthesis of magnesium
hydroxide and successfully synthesized high-purity superfine
magnesium hydroxide. Hexagonal magnesium hydroxide
flame-retarding agent with desirable particle size is produced.
Enlargement test on key commercial production technology and
equipment is also made in a 2 000 t/a experimental unit. The
development of key commercial production technology for
flame-retarding grade magnesium hydroxide is completed. The
relationship between equipment enlargement times and various
process conditions is established. The key technology for
particle size distribution in the commercial production of
magnesium hydroxide flame-retarding agent is therefore solved.
