Technology for Propanal Production through Dry Gas
Carbonylation

The technology for the propanal production through refiner dry
gas carbonylation was recently developed by Lanzhou Institute
CAS and passed the research achievement appraisal organized by
science and technology departments of Gansu province.
Refinery dry gas is a refinery tail gas that can no longer
have liquefaction. As it usually contains 10% - 20% ethylene and
around 30% hydrogen, it is a valuable chemical raw material. In
the technology, a certain amount of carbon monoxide is added into
dry gas to generate propanal in presence of carbonylation
catalyst. Propanal can be further processed into propionic acid
through oxidation or n-propanol through hydrogenation.
Propionic acid can generate propionates. Propionates are
excellent anticorrosion agents. n-Propanol is a unique ink
solvent.
