Two Technologies in JPC Win Patents

The project of the "pilot technology for the production of
isophorone and MBS series products through the acetone
vapor-solid multiphase catalytic condensation process and the
technology for its commercial test" undertaken by the Fine
Chemical Technology Center of Jilin Petrochemical Company Ltd.
(JPC) has passed experts' appraisal organized by CNPC. The two
new research achievements have won patents of the state.
   As one of the acetone in-depth processed products, isophorone
has strong solubility, good dispersion and excellent leveling
property. It is extensively used in plastic, pharmaceutical
sectors, etc. JPC owns abundant acetone resources and production
units of special solvents such as a 15 000 t/a trihydroxymethyl
propane unit and a 15 000 t/a methyl isobutyl ketone unit. The
company is therefore well qualified for the synthesis of
isophorone through the acetone vapor-solid multiphase catalytic
condensation process and the development of downstream
products.
   The rapid output increase of PVC in China has led to an
increasing demand of MBS resin and its series products in recent
years. The 200L polymerizer MBS pilot unit and the 5 000 t/a MBS
production unit in JPC have already completed bench tests in
collaboration with Changchun University of Technology.
Technical conditions are ripe for pilot tests and commercial
production tests.
