Base Oil Low-Temperature Adsorption Technology

The commercial application of the base oil low-temperature
adsorption technology has been conducted by PetroChina Dalian
Petrochemical Company Ltd. in its lube oil clay refining unit.
Not only products can meet the quality standard, the energy
consumption can also be reduced by 45%, the oil product yield
can increase by 0.5-0.6% and the clay reside discharge can be
down by 80%.
Lube oil base oil refining usually uses the liquid-phase
complexing denitrification process. It is conducted at a high
temperature of over 200 degree centigrade with 1.0% -2.0% active
clay. Spent active clay easily causes oil product loss and
environmental pollution.
The lube oil base oil low-temperature adsorption process
developed by PetroChina Dalian Petrochemical Company Ltd. uses
existing equipment and process flow. The oil product yield can
increase merely through modifying heating portions of products
and raw materials and replacing great amounts of clay with small
amounts of low-temperature high-effect adsorbent. When the
product quality is not affected, the filtration temperature can
be reduced by more than 100 degree centigrade. Owing to the
removal of the heater, the energy consumption can greatly cut
down and the process flow can shorten. Besides, adsorbent
residue can also be recycled for reuse. Both the processing cost
and the environmental pollution can therefore reduce.
