New Technology for Sterically Hindered Amine Desulfurization

The new technology for sterically hindered amine
desulfurization developed by the Research Institute of Nanjing
Chemical Industry Group recently passed the commercial
application appraisal sponsored by Sinopec Group. The
technology features low consumption of regenerative energy, no
corrosion to equipment, no toxicity in desulfurizing solvent and
no pollution in use.
In the new technology, sterically hindered amine and
assistants with excellent property are used to produce a new
absorbent that can remove H2S and organic sulfur contained in
industrial gases. The absorbent has a strong ability of removing
H2S and organic sulfur. When there is a high content of CO2, in
particular, it has very good selectivity to H2S.
Commercial application tests prove that compared with
N-methyl diethyl alcohol the sulfide absorbing ability of the
sterically hindered amine solution increases by 50%, the steam
consumption reduces by 20% and the solvent consumption is down
by 50%. Besides, the sulfide selectivity is also increased and
the production operation is safe and stable.
