PPG Develops Solarban 60 low-E Glass

PPG Industries Inc. recently successfully developed Solarban 60
low-E glass which can reduces solar heat gain by about 49% in
argon-filled insulating units compared with standard clear
glass residential units, meaning homes require less energy to
cool. Ultraviolet light transmittance of argon-filled Solarban
60 glass units, meanwhile, is about 72% less than clear glass
units, helping to reduce fading and degradation of carpets,
curtains and furniture.
Meanwhile, Solarban 60VT glass is the first that enables
fabricators to temper low-E glass and be confident the product
color matches the annealed version of the glass. That means the
Solarban 60 and Solarban 60VT glass installed on a single home
or commercial building has a uniform look.
