Sulfur Dioxide Leakage in HubeiA chemical plant in Jianli County of Hubei province had an accident of sulfur dioxide leakage.  One person died and more than 20 persons had poisoning symptoms.    Located outside of the Yangtze River Dam in Jianli county，Hubei Ezhong Chemical Co., Ltd. Jianli Branch conducted overhaul and changed the sulfur pump on March 14th, 2006. When the production was restarted at around 18:00 o'clock, operators discovered that the sulfur furnace had excess sulfur and immediately turned off the sulfur valve. Nevertheless, excessive sulfur dioxide had already been discharged for several minutes. As there was no wind at that time, sulfur dioxide toxic gas had very high concentration and spread to surrounding areas.
