Technology for the Extraction of Alumina from Aluminum-Enriched Slag

The project of the "technology for the extraction of alumina from aluminum-enriched slag produced from andalusite through electrothermal reduction process" jointly completed by Beijing Yanhuang Investment Management Co., Ltd. and Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics has recently passed appraisal. In the project andalusite is first used in China as raw material to produce aluminum-enriched slag and silicon iron directly through electrothermal reduction. Aluminum-enriched slag contains 72.29% (mass fraction) of alumina and 6.07% of silica and the yield is 40%. Silicon iron contains 70.53% of silicon, 26.04% of iron and 2.96% of aluminum. Xinjiang has rich andalusite resources and the execution of the project has increased their added value and technical content.
