Green Process for Cellulose Fiber in Hubei

Wuhan University has developed a new solvent system that can dissolve cellulose at room temperature. It has also used the new solvent system to produce cellulose fiber and formed a new process route to replace the traditional bonding process for the production of reclaimed cellulose membrane, spun filament and non-woven fabric. The output of cellulose fiber in the world is around 3.2 million tons a year today and the output of spun fiber accounts for 70% of the total. The output of spun fiber in China is 500 000 tons a year, accounting for around a quarter of the world total. In spite of the low price and excellent property, the production of spun fiber using the traditional process needs great quantities of CS2 and therefore causes serious environmental pollution. Advanced countries have shut down quite a few spun filament producers in recent years due to problems in environmental protection triggered by CS2.
