50 000 T/A Caprolactam Unit Completes Wet Commissioning
The  50  000  t/a  toluene  process  caprolactam  unit   in
Shijiazhuang Chemical Fiber  Co. ,   Ltd.   completed  wet
commissioning and produced  superior  quality  product  in
conformity with the national standard on Nov. 18 (See  CCR
Vol. 10, No. 36, Page 20).
  This major project of the state  during  the  Ninth  Five
-year Plan period has an investment of 3.57  billion  yuan.
It can ease China's reliance on the import of  caprolactam
-based chemicals. The project is jointly funded by  SINOPEC
and Hebei Province and implemented in Shijiazhuang Refinery.
Civil construction started on April 15, 1996. The  acrylic
fiber unit was completed and put on stream at the  end  of
1997.
  Only two  leading  products  ( caprolactam  and  ammonium
sulfate) were included in the design. Technical  personnel
  have  managed  in  wet  commissioning  to  develop  other
products with high added value such  as  industrial- grade
benzoic acid, medical-grade benzoic acid, hexahydrobenzoic
acid, nitrosyl sulfuric acid, 21.5% fuming sulfuric  acid,
65% fuming sulfuric acid and liquid sulfur trioxide.
