MTBE Unit Put on Stream in Jinling
                Petrochemical Corporation
The  30  000  t/a  MTBE  unit  in   Refinery   of   Jinling
Petrochemical Corporation completed wet  commissioning  on
Aug. 21 and produced qualified product with  a  purity  of
97% on Aug. 25,1998.
MTBE is an ideal product for improving the octane value  of
blended gasoline. It can not only effectively increase the
gasoline octane number, but also reduce hazardous gases in
  car  tail  gas  discharge.   The  MTBE  unit  in  Jinling
Petrochemical Corporation was jointly designed by its  own
design institute and Beijing Design Institute of  SINOPEC.
  The  process  of  refining  fixed  bed   and   azeotropic
distillation developed by China itself is used in the unit
. Industrial methanol is  synthesized  with  mixed  C  cuts
produced in the refinery. MTBE produced in  the  unit  can
meet the need in blending 97# gasoline.
