Guangdong-Ciba Polymer Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd.
                     Starts Business in Panyu
Guangdong-Ciba Polymer Chemical Industrial  Co. ,   Ltd. ,   a  plastic
enterprise set up by  Ciba  Fine  Chemical  of  Switzerland,   started
business in Fanyu on May 27. It is a  cooperation  enterprise  between
Ciba Fine Chemical of Switzerland and Shilou Town Economic Development
Co. of Panyu. Ciba Fine Chemical holds 95% ownership.
The initial investment by the Swiss company is 27 million U.S. dollars.
The enterprise has an annual output of 23 000  tons  and  20%  of  the
products will be for export.
The project started construction in April 1996  and  was  completed  in
December 1997. It is the fourth project of Ciba Fine Chemical in China
. Another 2 projects set up by the Swiss company will start  production
at the  end  of  the  year.   Still  another  2  projects  will  start
construction at the beginning of 1999. The total  investment  made  by
Ciba Fine Chemical in China (including the mainland,   Hong  Kong  and
Taiwan) will reach 300 million U.S. dollars at that time.
