 300 000 T/A Slow-Release Fertilizer Project Starts Construction

The 300 000 t/a slow-release fertilizer project in Heilongjiang Hanfeng Slow-Release Fertilizer Co., Ltd. located in Shangzhi, Heilongjiang province has recently started construction. The demonstration project for the cooperation in agriculture between Heilongjiang and Canada has a total investment of US$30 million. The project has a design capacity of 300 000 t/a, being 100 000 t/a in the first phase and 200 000 t/a in the second phase. It is expected to be completed and put on stream in November 2005.      Hanfeng Evergreen Inc. of Canada, the foreign investor of the company, mainly produces slow release compound fertilizers with SCU (sulfur coated urea) as raw material. Owing to the controllable release of nutrition, slow-release fertilizers can increase the fertilizer utilization rate, minimize environmental pollution, prevent soil lodging and improve the quality and increase the output of crops.    The use of the slow-release fertilizer technology from Canada in Heilongjiang Hanfeng Slow-Release Fertilizer Co., Ltd. can increase the output of grain. Compared with the direct application of urea, the application of slow-release fertilizer can increase the output of corn by 15 - 20%. It can also greatly save energy and promote environmental protection. Besides, slow-release fertilizer only needs to be used once in the growth period of crops. The nitrogen utilization rate in slow-release fertilizer is more than twice higher than conventional fertilizers.     In April this year Hanfeng of Canada used the matured SCU technology transferred by Nu-Gro of Canada and constructed Jiangsu Hanfeng Slow-Release Fertilizer Co., Ltd., the first large SCU plant in China. (CCR2005 No. 13) SCU produced in Jiangsu plant will ensure the raw material supply for the production in Heilongjiang plant. Besides, Hanfeng Evergreen Co., Ltd. of Canada will also use the technical advantage in Heilongjiang plant to develop more slow-release fertilizer varieties suitable for local conditions in China.    It is reported that Hanfeng of Canada will establish a large dielectric earth production base in Heilongjiang in collaboration with Peltracom, the largest dielectric earth supplier in Europe. 10 slow-release fertilizer plants will be constructed by the Canadian company in the next 5 years.
