 Orimulsion-Fired Power Plant in Zhanjiang

The downstream facility of Guangdong Zhanjiang orimulsion system project has been launched. As an energy project with major support from the state, Zhanjiang orimulsion-fired power plant is China’s first and the world’s biggest orimulsion-fired power plant. The first phase of the project has a total investment of around RMB4.1 billion and will be completed in the first quarter of 2006.      The project is jointly funded by CNPC Fuel Oil Co., Ltd., Guangdong Power Development Co., Ltd. and Zhanjiang Port Group Co., Ltd. After its completion, the plant will have a strong ability of peak regulation and grid transmission and can achieve satisfactory economic performance. It is expected that the annual output value will be RMB2.2 billion, the annual tax will be around RMB400 million and the annual consumption of orimulsion will be 2.0 million tons. The plant can increase the peak regulation volume, optimize the power source structure and enhance the reliability of the south power grid and help ease the power shortage in Guangdong (CCR2004 No. 2).
