 Blue Star 60 000 T/A POM Project Starts up

Recently the 60 000 t/a polyoxymethylene (POM) project was formally started up by China Blue Star (Group) Corporation (Blue Star) in Xinghuo Development Zone, Shanghai.     Reference to the existed 1 900 t/a POM unit in Shanghai Solvent Plant that is a subsidiary of Blue Star, the RMB910 million new project adopts advanced technology with some apparatus imported from abroad.    POM resin is a kind engineering plastics with methanol as primary raw material, which is widely applied in many sectors such as electronics, electrics, mechanical processing, automobile manufacturing, instruments and appliances to replace non-ferrous metals including copper, aluminum, zinc etc. The consumption of POM in China increases rapidly, from 16 000 tons to 100 000 tons per year during the period of 1992-2001. It is expected that the consumption of POM will reach 170 000 tons in 2005. The gap between demand and supply is great.     Blue Star works at research and production of POM from the end of 1990s. After the 60 000 t/a POM project completed, the sales revenue per year is expected to add  RMB840 million, net profit will reach more than RMB100 million, making Blue Star the most important POM manufacturer.
