Ten departments including the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, etc. jointly issued Plan to Properly Dispose Wastes from Medical Institutions, involving eight aspects (e.g. classification, disposal and guidance regarding medical wastes, recycling of infusion bottles/bags, special rectification activities, etc.) and detailing departments responsible for each job.
While requiring cities above the prefecture level to construct at least one qualified centralized medical wastes disposal facility by the end of 2020, the plan requires counties and county-level cities to establish medical wastes collection, transfer and disposal systems prior to the end of June 2022. In addition, special rectification activities are to be conducted this year mainly to standardize medical wastes’ classification, disposal and recycling.
