PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company will establish an underground gas storage cluster in Yibin city of Sichuan province for peak-shaving in Chengdu, the western and southern parts of Sichuan. The pre-feasibility report has passed the review of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and the gas storage cluster is planned to be completed by 2030.

The cluster is the first of its kind in Sichuan province, with a designed storage capacity of 5.9 billion cubic metres (cbm) and working gas capacity at 3 billion cbm. Its daily gas injection capacity will reach 20 million cbm and gas recovery capacity at 39 million cbm following completion.

According to the overall construction plan, pilot test construction and gas injection of the two storage reservoirs will be completed by 2022 and construction will be completed by 2023 before put into operation in 2025. It is worth noting that it is the first time China rebuild the fractured-vuggy gas reservoirs, which need technological breakthroughs.
