World’s First Methylbenzene & Methanol Methylation Unit Passes Completion Acceptance

Sinopec Group announced that on December 20, 2017, seven industrial projects of subsidiary Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical, including the world’s first 200 000 t/a methylbenzene methanol methylation, gasoline blending and transportation of gasoline through Qingjiang Wharf passed completion acceptance.
The 200 000 t/a Methylbenzene & Methanol Methylation Project integrates advanced technology and development resources of Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical, Sinopec Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology and Sinopec Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation and so on. The 200 000 t/a Gas-phase Polyethylene Unit Optimization and Modification Project improves the unit’s homopolymerization, copolymerization load-bearing capacity by about 20% and its copolymerization ratio from 60% to 80% by slightly changing process and updating some equipment; moreover, the unit can now be used to manufacture high-rigidity, high-melt-index products, effectively improving the unit’s product grade and the proportion of copolymerized products. Through calibration, the project has also achieved modification goals. The Crude Blending Project, the Gasoline Blending Project and the Project for Gasoline Pipeline Transportation Through Qingjiang Wharf handle over 3 million t/a of refined oil, and the target production after the 12.5mn t/a Refined Oil Project is modified and put into operation, moving oil out of the factory through a 15km-long transportation pipeline to storage and transportation facilities at the Qingjiang Wharf, effectively resolving the serious lack of transportation capacity of these wharfs.
