China’s Carbon Emission Falls Continually

In the first three quarters of 2017, China decreased its carbon emission intensity by around 4%, and is likely to surpass the target of controlling greenhouse gas emission by 2020.
From 2005 to 2015, China’s energy use was up 5.1% annually, while the national economy rose 9.5%, equivalent to reducing emission of carbon dioxide by around 4.1 billion tons. Economic growth and environmental protection started to coexist.
In 2016, China raised the share of non-fossil energy in primary energy consumption to 13.3%. Further, energy consumption per unit of GDP and emission of carbon dioxide were both down, decreasing 5% and 6.6%, respectively. The three figures all exceeded annual objectives for 2016.
