Progress on the Institute of Coal Chemistry (ICC)’s Million Tons MTA Technology

Currently, the methanol conversion team of State Key Laboratory of coal conversion from Institute of Coal Chemistry (ICC) has completed pilot test of MTA in Taiyuan city Xiaodian base. So far, the unit has been fully operated stably and continuously for 500 hours, producing qualified aromatic hydrocarbons with its technical indication up to domestic equivalent technology.
This test is successful after initial commissioning, carried out through self-developed million tons MTA unit after its installation and optimization. The test completes the full production process, verification and optimization of independent-developed catalyst and process conditions, which realize the automatic control of operating conditions such as feeding/ discharging rate, temperature, pressure, etc.
Methanol to Aromatics (MTA) with methanol as raw material, in the process of the convention of aromatic products over molecular sieve catalyst, is a process routing which uses efficiently coal or natural gas instead of petroleum in the production of benzene, toluene and xylene aromatics. Further, it is very important for relieving the shortage of aromatics resource, and extending the coal chemical and natural gas chemical industry chain.
