Feasibility Study Completed for 600 000 T/A Coal-to-MEG Unit in Northern Shanxi

Recently, Mr. Chen Erdong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shuozhou Municipal Committee and the Deputy Mayor, investigated China Coal Huayu Group’s acetylene-based acrylic acid project and coal to MEG project in Shanyin County. According to the person in charge of Huayu, the 800 000 t/a acetylene-based acrylic acid project and 600 000 t/a coal-to-MEG project were funded by Shanxi Lansong Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. The total investment is RMB15.9 billion, and construction will be completed in three years. The 600 000 t/a coal-to-MEG project applies the technology of gasifying coal to synthesis gas and then generates carbon monoxide and hydrogen via purification and separation. The reaction between carbon monoxide and methanol generates dimethyl oxalate, and then MEG will be produced by adding hydrogenation. The feasibility study of the project has been completed and the company is now preparing applications for filing and environmental impact assessment.
