Sinopec Hainan Starts Construction of Second PX Plant

On August 22, Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical began construction of its second para-xylene (PX) plant.
The project integrates Sinopec’s latest scientific research achievements in the aromatics field. Since its basic design was approved in April, Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical has been cooperating closely with each organization involved in the construction and going all out to promote the tender, design, purchase and site preparation so as to accelerate the project.
The plant is scheduled to be completed in March 2019 and be put into a test run in June, with on-spec products expected out in September. Following the completion of the project, Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical will have PX capacity of around 1.60 million t/a and will become Sinopec’s largest aromatics production base. The project will bring great economic and social benefits, as chemical fiber produced by PX can replace cotton, which will effectively alleviate the land competition between cotton and grain production.
