WACKER Presents Hydrophobic Grades of Pyrogenic Silica and a VAE Dispersion for Nozzle Applications

At this year’s China Adhesive show, WACKER  presented two hydrophobic grades of HDK? pyrogenic silica. HDK? H30RY can be chemically incorporated into resin networks and is able to improve the mechanical properties and scratch resistance of adhesives and sealants. HDK? H20RH provides polar systems with extremely stable thickening and thixotropic properties. It can also improve the storage stability of amine hardeners. In addition, WACKER will introduce VINNAPAS? EP 6420, a vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (VAE) dispersion that offers outstanding performance for nozzle applications and is suitable for environmentally friendly, high-performance adhesives in paper and packaging applications.
HDK? H30RY is a hydrophobic, methacrylic-functional silica. Thanks to reactive surface treatment, this product can be chemically incorporated into resin networks, enhancing the mechanical properties and scratch resistance of systems based on vinyl esters, polyesters or acrylates. This yields a broad range of applications – from coatings and adhesives to sealants. Moreover, the properties of dental fillings and nail gels can be optimized with HDK? H30RY.
HDK? H20RH is a high-BET hydrophobic silica that has been treated with alkylsilane. This silicone-fluid-free additive features exceptional rheological activity in polar systems. It also prolongs the shelf life of epoxy resin and hardeners for two-compound adhesives, in particular the storage stability of amine hardeners. Its application fields include automotive adhesives, half-shell bonding in wind turbines, and chemical anchors.
VINNAPAS? EP 6420 is a new VAE dispersion specifically developed for the formulation of water-based adhesives in demanding paper and packaging applications. This all-purpose VAE binder offers best-in-class performance for nozzle application, showing excellent running stability without skin formation, high setting speed as well as outstanding cleanability. It can also be used for roller application and improves production efficiency. VINNAPAS? EP 6420 makes formulations with a very broad range of viscosities possible. As no external plasticizers are necessary due to the chemical composition of VINNAPAS? EP 6420, it also enables the formulation of adhesives with low migration potential.
At China Adhesive 2017, WACKER unveiled new grades of its GENIOSIL? brand to complement its portfolio of silane-terminated polyethers. GENIOSIL? hybrid polymers are silane-curing organic polymers. They not only combine the typical advantages of silicones and polyurethanes, but also offer further benefits. Thanks to WACKER’s unique α-silane modification technology, GENIOSIL? hybrid polymers enable the finished product to be cured rapidly and completely without blistering. They can also be formulated without tin or plasticizers according to application needs, and lend finished products outstanding storage stability. Furthermore, GENIOSIL? hybrid polymers can be blended with each other and thus provide flexibility for customer formulations.
GENIOSIL? hybrid polymers have a comprehensive product line to cover diverse needs in construction and industrial applications. GENIOSIL? STP-E basic polymers are used to formulate a wide range of adhesives and sealants with different modulus and strength. Super-high-strength GENIOSIL? XB is ideal for strong bonding between dissimilar materials, for example, construction-sector structural bonding, free nail glue and tile grouts.
