Jinling Huntsman’s PO Project Put into Operation

The propylene oxide (PO) plant, built by Nanjing Jinling Huntsman New Material, a joint venture of China’s Sinopec and the US’s Huntsman Chemical Trading (Shanghai), was commissioned recently, Nanjing Daily announced on July 17. The plant yielded on-spec PO and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) during the first commissioning.
Nanjing Jinling Huntsman New Material, costing RMB4.9 billion in total, was incorporated and registered in Nanjing Chemical Industry Park in November 2012. Taking advantage of Sinopec’s low-carbon hydrocarbon resources in Nanjing and Huntsman’s advanced technology, Jinling Huntsman started the PO project in January 2013 and completed major plant construction on November 18, 2016. The production and operation team closely cooperated with the design, construction and supervision teams during trial operation, ensuring successful commissioning. The project has an designed capacity of 240 000 t/a of PO and 742 000 t/a of MTBE.
